Advantages: Fantastic read, an alltime classic

Disadvantages: none in my opinion!

Funny how this should appear in the top five books section, but I recently finished reading this, after many years of meaning to! Like many other people around the UK, I got a four book boxed set, giving the Hobbit, and the Lord of the Rings in paperback form. After a few weeks hard reading, my mind was buzzing with hobbits, orcs, dwarfs and elves.
This is, quite literally, the best book I have ever read! From start to finish of all three sections, Tolkein holds you gripped, while the maps included in the version I read (I believe drawn by his son) really let you picture middle-earth in your mind.
This book is so good in fact, I may pull out some pipe-weed, kick up my hairy feet, and read it again soon.

Will do actually - not tonight though. I'll knock out a full and more in depth opinion tomorrow when I have more time

Hi Hoopy, I don't think you would spoil it by telling us a little bit more about the plot, and I would also be really interested to know what aspects of it particularly appealed to you. If you update your op, let me know and I'll come and re-read/re-rate.
