Advantages: Full of twists and an unexpected storyline.

Disadvantages: A tad short- would have liked it to have been slighly longer

In my opinion "Lord Of The Shadows" is one of the best books in Darren Shans' highly acclaimed Saga.

This book is reminiscent of the whole saga, full of twists and an unpredictable story lines.

This book picks up after Darren Shan and Little Person Harkat were sent to the wasteland to discover Harkat's previous identity. The two friends have been spending time traveling with the Cirque Du Freak. Everything is quiet until the Cirque's manager, Mr. Tall, tells Darren that their next stop is Darren's hometown. Darren hasn't been home since the first book and his family believes that he is dead. Against his better judgment Darren decides to stay with the Cirque.

The Cirque are moving on to a new destination to perform in front of crowds - and they're heading for Darren's hometown Darren finds out that Annie (his sister) has a son, and spies on the two of them for a while, until having to go back to called Darius, who acquires tickets for the show. However the boy does not turn up as expected but rather, Darrens' old school friend, Tommy Jones shows up who by now has become a worldwide phenomenon as a famous footballer. Darren gets tickets to the semi-finals of a football game, but at this event Tommy Jones is viciously murdered by Gannen Harst and R.V (Two Vampaneze and the arch nemesis of the Vampire race) leaving Darren distressed.

Darren realizes that no matter what happens, the harsh future that he and Harkat saw, cannot be avoided. That if he did succeed in killing Steve, then he would end up turning evil and killing Vancha (his close friend) and all other vampires who stood in his way. After Steve kidnapped and brutally murdered Evra's son Shancus, Darren prepares to surrender himself to destiny and kill Darius, but has second thoughts after realising that Annie is Darius's mother making him Darren's nephew.
The book has a shocking ending with the awful realisation that Darius is his sisters' son, leaving the reader craving for more.
Overall it is an highly enthralling read and one which I would recommend for all to read.

Summary: A great, enthralling read which wouldi highly recommend
