The Lost Boy is the second book in the trilogy by author Dave Pelzer. His books make for difficult reading in terms of the subject as he writes about his childhood and the abuse which was given out to him by his mother. This book follows on from "A Child Called It" and covers his life from the age of 12 until he left to join the air force. The author has been accused of exaggerating some of the stories in the book, but clearly he has suffered dreadfully from his childhood. I found that the book was occasionally strangely structured, and a little less readable than the first book in the series, but it is still a compelling title. The first ... Read the complete review

David Pelzer - a child called IT - didn't matter to his brothers, teachers, neighbours or school mates, but as my title states, it really matters that abuse such as he describes is allowed still, in this day and age, to go on. The first thing I noticed on collecting this book from the library was how small and thin it was, (being a bestseller I had expected the usual many paged wonder). Had I only known, the size of the book is almost a prophecy as the contents depict a small, thin child who despite having an initial normal childhood, eventually suffers horrendous abuse at the hands of his mother. We join David Pelzer at the end of a tortuous ... Read the complete review

WARNING - THE CONTENTS OF THIS OPINION MAY DISTURB SOME READERS. This is likely to be the most controversial opinion that I have written on dooyoo to date. I say that because it completely disagrees with the opinions of almost all of the dooyoo writers I most respect. It is about the book "A Child called "It"" by Dave Pelzer - a book which forced me to re-evaluate my life, even to seek counselling in an effort to come to terms with my reaction to it. I ask you to be courteous enough to remember that "I do not agree" does not automatically equal "Not Useful". For those who haven't read the book - if there is ... Read the complete review

+ Plot Synopsis + The Lost Boy is the second book in the trilogy by author David Pelzer. It is the moving sequel to the highly acclaimed ‘A Child Called IT’. This book details Pelzer's adolescent years, from age 12 to age 18, and follows his experiences as a foster child after being rescued from abuse in 1973, to his decision to join the U.S. Air Force in 1979. The first chapter goes back to when he was only 9 years old, which gives the reader an insight into Dave Pelzer’s life as it was described in the first book. For people who have not read ‘A Child Called It’, the first chapter summarises the general mood and ... Read the complete review
