Advantages: A life lesson of neglect
Disadvantages: you need to buy more tissues
I read this and the follow up of'The Lost Boy' in two days. I cried my eyes out. My hubby wondered what on earth I was reading. I kept saying 'how could she!' and he was keen to know what it was about. If you love kids then read this. You won't believe how a mother could treat her child so appallingly. It's about child abuse from a mother who has 3 boys (then has 2 more whilst mistreating the author, Dave.) The shocking story of starvation, torture, neglect, brainwashing, alcholism and mistrust. It's hard to believe a young child went through so much and still survived! His school finally noticed the conditon that he was in (smelly and clothes falling in rags) and they came to his rescue. It was an uphill struggle even then, she was always in the background threatening to hurt him. It's a very emotive story and you won't be able to stop your own emotions of anger and compassion. There is so much that we know so little about as children are warned not to tell anyone. HOW CAN ANY ADULT DO THIS!!!! Reading it teaches you the value of your children and how much we ignore within other families.
