Advantages: Gritty Read
Disadvantages: Very Sad
Never in my entire life have I been hooked to a book as I have when I picked up this book. The book that I'm talking about is called "A child called it", after reading an excellent opinion by Maryhutton on this site, I decided to purchuse a copy, I found it for sale on the tesco's website, for £2.69 + postage and Package, and it was well worth every penny. The book is written by Dave Pelzer, and it is about his life as a child, and what he went through in the hands of his own mother,I won't go into too much detail as it will spoil the book if you should wan't to read it for yourselves. The story begins with the end, so to speak, with david and his school nurse, of whom he tells everything that had been going on with his life, When David was born he was the youngest of 3 brothers and he had the perfect life up until he was around 4 years old, then everything change, the brutality of his own mother is so shocking it had me in tears. Never could I have ever imagined such cruelty went on in a family home, his father sat back and watched everything happen to this poor child, and it wasn't just a case of beatings. I sat and read the whole book in a day, as I just couldn't put it down, Dave pelzer has also written two follow ups to this book called "A man called Dave" and "The Lost Boy", I am planning to read both of these in the very near future. Dave Pelzer has shrown great courage in writing these books, and they are well worth a read, though I was totally shocked at what had happened to this poor child, it is claimed to be the 3rd worst case of child abuse in America, so I can't even begin to imagine what the other cases were like.
