Advantages: Amazing book! Just, read it no matter what age you are!

Disadvantages: None

"Love Lessons", written by famous award-winning child novelist, Jacqueline Wilson, and illustrated by Nick Sharrat, is a story for young teenagers about the hardships of fitting into new crowds, the stress and complications of strict parents, and the all important teenage 'first love'. Which some of you may still have memories of.

Fourteen year old Prudence, more commonly known in the story as Prue, lives with her mum, dad, and little sister in her small house above her father's book store. Prue and her little sister, are not very sociable as they both are home-schooled and do not enjoy the many luxuries such as, fast foods, televisions, bought clothes, ect.

Prue, is then forced to attend a maths tuition with a £20 fee each week. Instead of obediently attending her classes, Prue, sneakily truants from her tuition and each weeks begins to introduce herself to the teenage world by spending her given tuition money on things such as: McDonalds, sweeties, girl magazines, sexy linguire, girls clothes. However, not everything goes to plans and her whole new life falls apart as her father finds out about her sneaky plans. Mortified and utterly outraged by his daughters insolence and disobedience, her father takes a dramatic stroke and has to be rushed to hospital. As Prue's father is the one who home-schools Prue and her little sister, they are both forced to attend public school. The only school they could attend, was the worst school in their area, with a very bad reputation.

As Prue's little sister settles in well, Prue, struggles to do so. She makes more enemies in her year than friends, due to the fact the schools 'hot boy', Toby, falls for Prue. Prue shows no interest in the boy, however, Toby's girlfriend finds out about her boyfriend falling for Prue and declares war. Toby's girlfriend being the most popular girl of the school, made Prue's life hell at the school. Until she met the handsome, young, fun-loving teacher, Mr Raxberry. Although, all the pupils called him 'Rax'. Rax began to show some real interest in Prue's exceptional artistic talents. Prue, also showed interest in Rax's teaching skills. With this, they became very close. So close, that Rax asked Prue to babysit for him and his wife, starting to bring Rax and Prue, closer outside the school gates. Prue starts to show strong, emotional feelings for Rax, but is Rax hiding his feelings, or just showing pity towards Prue? Also, can Prue hide her emotions?

Jacqueline Wilson, in this novel, manages to slide into the shoes of a teenager, successfully describing emotions, thoughts, and feelings from a teenagers point of view. I enjoyed this novel very much, as it was very dramatic and in a way, very romantic. This book is aimed at teenagers, However, I liked it and I'm sure other older people will too as is it a story of young loves, first loves, and the threat of last loves.

"Deserves three cheers... the most richly enjoyable Wilson novel for years"
~ The Times

"As a piece of escapism, it's a glorious, book-length version of one of the photo-stories in Jackie magazine"
~ Observer

"Wilson treats this subject with extraordinary emotional intelligence"
~ Mail on Sunday

"Jaqueline Wilson is particulary good at putting herself inside the skin of awkward misfit characters"
~Spectator

" A hard-hitting and compulsively readable tale for teenagers"
~Irish Indapendant

Summary: Wilsons best yet!
