Love Lies - Adele Parks
Advantages: plot, well written
As many of you will know, I do love a good read, whether it be a chick-lit book, a magazine or an autobiography, I've always got my nose in some kind of 'reading'. I had a week of work the other work, and so I did a fair bit of reading (lots of book reviews on the way!!). Today, I will be reviewing one of my recent reads by an author called Adele Parks.
Love Lies is a chick-lit fictional novel by Adele Parks. The book was released in the summer of 2009 and is currently available to buy from Amazon for a price of £4.40.
Fern is nearly thirty. As she approaches the big 3-0, she can't help but think about how life with her long term boyfriend Adam, use to be so good. However, as of late, things have turned quite dull and Fern seems to think that the only way forward is marriage, although there is one slight problem; Adam won't propose! Fed up, she tells him, it's marriage or it's over! However, what wil happen when she meets a famous rock star who she just cannot stop thinking about? Read Love Lies to find out!
I did enjoy this book, as it is the kind of book that captures you from the minute you read the first sentence. Once I had started reading it, I just could not put it down, and when I did have to put it down, (to go and do something else), all I could think about was, 'when can I read it?'. It didn't take me long to read ; within a couple of hours I had read all five hundred and twelve pages.
This is a really nice 'light' and 'fun' read which means that it is the kind of book which doesn't require much thinking, which is great especially if you have had a stressful day at work, and want something to 'chill out to' without having to think too much.
I really liked the plot, despite it being a little far-fetched in places, however it is fiction and it's great to escape and enter a different world for a couple of hours. I know, the book is only fictional, but I really enjoyed the L.A part as it is a place I have always wanted to visit, and having read this book, I now want to go there even more than before.I think that nearly every girl reading this book will be able to relate to the plot in some way. I mean, it's every girls dream to get whisked away by a celebrity isn't it?
The characters were a bit 'mad' ; at least the main character Fern was. I didn't really 'get her' but I still managed to enjoy the book, as normally if I don't understand or 'click' with the main character then I don't normally enjoy a book.
I thought that the book was well written and I loved how vivid some of the descriptions were. I also loved the fact that the writing flowed so naturally and wasn't 'forced'. This book kind of reminded me of one of my favourite books, 'Johnny Be Good' by Paige Toon, so if you liked that book, you will probably like this one too!
I hadn't heard of Adele Parks (at least I don't think I had) until now, which is quite strange really, considering that I am such a big 'chick-lit' fan, and the fact that having 'googled' her after reading this book, discovered that she has sold over one million copies of her books!! I hadn't read any of her books before, however I do like to try new authors every now and again. Having read some reviews by some of her fans, I read that they didn't think that this was as good as her other books, although as I havn't read any of her other books, I have nothing to compare this one with, however I will say that this is a great read, especially if you like the chick-lit genre. I will certainly be buying more of Adele Parks' books.
If you like chick-lit, then I would definately recommend this book to you!
Thanks for reading!
