Advantages: perfect christmas scenario, simple story, nice pictures
Disadvantages: none
A lovely childrens storybook, set right in the heart of childhood idealistic christmas memories. Shirley Hughes never fails to delight children with her simple idealistic books on childhood. This one is no exception. The illustarations are lovely, warm and cosy. As an adult, you feel yourself taken back in time to your own childhood as you read! It's a very simple story narrating the steps in preparation for Lucy and Tom's christmas. It shows the postman visiting more than usual with christmas cards, toy nativity scenes, the presents to be wrapped, writing letters to Santa, carol singers, shopping for a christmas tree, and decorating it, to finally waking up to a snowy christmas morning, a visit to Church, and christmas dinner for ten! It really conjures up everything you would wish for from a perfect christmas day! The story is just the right length for a bed time story, with just a few lines on each page, and it just leaves you wishing for a little more of Shirley Hughes' magic...........
