I bought this book as a gift for a friend of mine to cheer her up as she had been having an all round bad time with one thing or another(Men mostly!!) I hoped that she would read it quickly and then let me borrow it back, but it didn’t quite work out that way, infact I don’t know if she has finished reading it yet!! I couldn’t wait so I bought myself another copy, and am I glad I did. My first encounter with Marian Keyes was with The Last Chance Saloon, and I fell in love with her style of writing and the characters that she created. Right from the start of this book she had me hooked.. She has a wonderful witty ... Read the complete review

This was my third attempt at reading this book, and I am usually not so persistent. At first glance Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married by Marian Keyes is going to be one of those, oh so predictable ?girly? books, but I don?t know what it is about the book but I felt that it was a book that I should enjoy so couldn't understand why I had not managed to complete it? My initial perception of the book is that it was very similar to Bridget Jones Diary. Lucy Sullivan does have many similarities, to Bridget, even a romantic interest and a life long friend called Daniel (who she ... Read the complete review

Lucy Sullivan is getting married is written by the highly talented Marian Keyes who has also written "Rachel's Holiday" and the current bestseller "Last Chance Saloon", both of which are excellent reads! The plot is basically around Lucy, who decides to take action and ditches her boyfriend, leaves home and starts a new life in London. In she moves with 2 mental man eating flatmates and plenty of laughter opportunites occur as a result. As with every new woman novel it concerns the search for Mr Right and all the Mr Wrongs along the way. All the girls from Lucy's work decide to see a fortune teller and Lucy's predicts ... I love reading and always have a book on the go, this was my last book to read before the one I'm up to now. I'd had it in my cupboard for months, I'd tried reading it once before but I couldn't seem to get into it, I was going my A Levels at the time and had more important things to think about, so I never even got past the thrid chapter. So it was to my surprise that a couple of weeks ago, I found I was out of library books so picked up this, and I really got into it, so much so that I couldn't put it down!! The story is of Lucy Sullivan, she's always had bad boyfriends (musician no hopers!!) and has recently broke up with yet another of the same ... Read the complete review

This is the first of Marian Keyes books I have read and I must say I will probably not read another. The storyline, characters etc are all of what I look for in a book, however, it was just too long and too predictable. I understand most 'chic lit' is very predictable but once you have worked out what is going to happen you haven't still got 300 pages to wade through like in Lucy Sullivan is getting married. The book is about Lucy Sullivan, a happy go lucky type girl, who went to see a fortune teller with her 3 friends, Meredia, Megan and Hetty. Lucy doesn't believe the predictions of the fortune teller as she is told she will be married within a year. The ... Read the complete review
