Advantages: Funny stuff, well portrayed characters
Disadvantages: bit predictable
Lucy Sullivan is getting married is written by the highly talented Marian Keyes who has also written "Rachel's Holiday" and the current bestseller "Last Chance Saloon", both of which are excellent reads! The plot is basically around Lucy, who decides to take action and ditches her boyfriend, leaves home and starts a new life in London. In she moves with 2 mental man eating flatmates and plenty of laughter opportunites occur as a result. As with every new woman novel it concerns the search for Mr Right and all the Mr Wrongs along the way. All the girls from Lucy's work decide to see a fortune teller and Lucy's predicts that she will be getting married, hence the next guy she meets, the lovable rogue Gus is earmarked as being the one. BUT as we know things are never that straightforward and pretty soon it is very apparent that Gus is not Mr Right, it just takes Lucy a lot to realise this. Throughout all this Lucy has had her male best friend, and well i am sure you can guess the rest. This book has a predictable ending i think, although it does not take the enjoyment away from it being both an hilarious, yet touching at times read. I would recommend any of Marian Keyes work as so far they have all blended humour and sensitivity well to give a humerous view on all the situations that us 21st century girls face (well and a few less common scenarios!).

- 13/01/01 I read this book after Last Chance Saloon and I didn't find it as enjoyable, I don't know whether this was because it was one of her first books. I thought the characters in Last Chance Saloon were more 'real'. I agree that the ending was a bit predictable though |
