I recently found myelf short of something new to read and so decided to reread this novel which I remembered reading and enjoying some years ago. Whilst I've definitely read better books of this sort since then I still enjoyed it second time around. The blurb: "Meet Lucy Gordon, the sweet, scatty, irresistible heroine of Fiona Walker's delicious new novel. Lucy lives in a Berkshire village with her two friends, Jane and Bella, and works in the marketing department of Widgetex Computers. Her boss - Slave Driver - is a constant bane; her family are lovable eccentrics; her boyfriend, the dishy but fickle Greg, takes shameless advantage of her ... Read the complete review

Books are relatively expensive here in Australia, there is no equivalent to the top ten shelves in Asda or Tesco (that I’ve found yet) and there is no Australian Amazon unfortunately, so when I spotted a small shop just outside Sydney’s Central Station that proclaimed on it’s hoarding, ‘3 Books for $12 (about four and a half quid to you and me) I skipped inside with glee. The selection was quite limited and just one shelf was discounted, however, seeing my crest fallen gaze the man behind the counter took pity on me and said I could pick any I wanted. Yippee! One of the books I picked up was Lucy Talk, by Fiona Walker, which is the subject of this review. I ... Read the complete review

Lucy Gordon is 24 years of age who lives in Burr Cottage in Berkshire with her two friends Bella and Jane. Her friend Mo also lived there however she moved out to see the world. Lucy keeps in touch through e-mail most days although she has never replied to one throughout the whole book. Which will become apparent why at the end. Lucy works for a company called Widgetex Computers, in the Marketing department. She regularly tries to impress her boss Slave Driver by being talked into doing charity parachute jumps etc. She really wants the promotion of being his right hand man or should I say women, but unfortunately he went outside the company and employed ... Being an avid reader of Fiona Walker, i have enjoyed all of her previous work, especially "Kiss Chase" and "French Relations" I felt that "Snap Happy" and "Between Males" were good but perhaps not in the same class as her earlier work; still worth reading though. When "Lucy Talks" was published, i quickly bought it as I was dying to get another fix of the strong characters that i have grown to expect but i am sorry to say that this new effort was quite disappointing. The book is written in e-mails and letters with a few notes thrown in too which has been done to death recently. Lucy, the main character is a bit ... Read the complete review
