Advantages: GOOD HONEST INSIGHTS
Disadvantages: TOO MUCH WHINGING
Neil Warnock's autiobiography, Made in Sheffield is an interesting insight in to the life of one of the most controversial managers around.
Warnock known more for his managerial career than footballing career provides stories from his managerial days at Notts County, Plymouth and Sheffield United to name a few. He also talks of his other interests like the fact he is a qualified chiropodist and part time referee.
His passion for Sheffield United is highlighted throughout the book. He goes in to detail about the people in football he likes and more interestingly those he doesn't. His relationship with Stan Ternant is particularly bitter and makes a good read. He gives a damning verdict on referee Graham Poll and other referees he doesn't like. A really interesting story involves a particularly unpleasant experience involving actor Sean Bean and Warnock's family.
Unfortunantly the negative is that Warnock appears to whinge too much. He says that younger managers get praised more than he does. As for the Carlos Tevez affair that could have been a book on it's own as he whines about the injustice of the affair with West Ham. He constantly reiterates that he should have been a premiership manager. The autiobiography therefore comes across as a chance fo Warnock to show how unjust life has been for him.
Made in Sheffield is a good read especially if you like to read people's woes!
Summary: A BOOK FULL OF WHINGING, BUT GOOD!
