Advantages: great characters and lots of action

Disadvantages: none

The Lion the Witch & the Warderobe is CS Lewis's most famous book in this series, but this is my favourite.
Digory & Polly are the children, who are tricked by Diggory's sly uncle into discovering a way into a land that is a kind of crossroads between different worlds. From there they travel to a land at the very moment of its creation: Aslan the lion sings into existence all the rivers & grass & trees, & all the animals, to make a lush paradise called Narnia.
But evil Queen Jadis has slipped through with the children, & she has terrible designs on this new world.
I loved this book for its fast-paced, exciting storylines & for the unforgettable description of Narnia's creation.
The much-mentioned Christian references have never made much impression on me. What have struck me more are all the things that link up with Narnia's future: the origins of the lamppost & of the wardrobe, & where we next meet Polly & Diggory.

Summary: a riveting story that joins up the Narnia dots
