Galactic Millieu Series - Julian May in general
by Waagh - written on 21/06/01 (Useful, 23 readings)
Rating:
The Galactic Milieu series tells, in three books, the story of humanity's entry into the higher consciousness of the universe, and one family's part in this entry. Focussing primarily on the the Remillard clan, the Galactic Milieu series charts a period of around thirty years, covering the rise of psychic powers in the human race, their elevation as a galactic power, up until the great war sparked by the adversary, and ended by the sacrifice of his brother. This is a powerful story, well told. The writing is excellent, and the characterisations of all the main players are excellent, lifelike and well thought out. The main story charts the efforts of ...

Saga of the Exiles - Julian May in general
by Redhead23 - written on 16/06/01 (Very useful, 686 readings)
Rating:
When I read an excellent DooYoo opinion on 'The Many-Coloured Land' by Julian May a while ago, I suddenly remembered that my other half was in possession of not only this book, but also of the rest of the sci-fi and fantasy-inspired epic 'Saga of the Exiles' as well as the follow-ups 'Intervention', 'Jack the Bodiless', 'Diamond Mask' and 'Magnificat'. So, after being persuaded of the quality of these books not only by my other half, but also by DooYoo, I started reading... and reading... and reading. Now, only a few weeks down the line, I have finished the four books of the 'Saga of the Exiles' and, after ...

Diamond Mask - Julian May
by Redhead23 - written on 09/07/01 (Very useful, 410 readings)
Rating:
'Diamond Mask' - the second book in Julian May's overwhelming and ingenious 'Galactic Milieu Trilogy' - tells the story of the mysterious Diamond Mask, whom we know from the 'Saga of the Exiles' to be the future spouse of Jon Remillard, known posthumously as 'Saint Jack the Bodiless'. 'Jack the Bodiless' told the story of how mankind deals with its fate in the years after the alien Intervention and the birth of the Milieu's brightest mind, the boy genius Jon (and little brother of Marc) Remillard, whose body was reduced to a naked brain by vicious cancers triggered by a lethal gene complex. But in spite of Its endurances, ...
