This is essential when teaching phonics and having taught a number of Nursery and Reception children over the years, it is far more difficult for those children whose parents have taught them letter names as opposed to their sounds. It is also vitally important that the correct sounds are taught, e.g mmmmm for 'm' not 'mu' etc
