Advantages: great beaches, forests, & shops!
Disadvantages: hot/humid/polluted
Kuala Lumpur the capital of Malaysia is great for all tourists, in this very hot climate there are excellent hotels. There are great shops and things are very cheap, technology is pretty good too.
Strange things were seen when exploring Malaysia, shops sellings testicles, yes i did say what you just read, Kangaroo testicles etc. I wont go into detail what else they were selling because you get the idea.
I just said the last part to throw a huge contrast of Malaysia=let me explain, basically Malaysia is a great tourist destination because it has great sites like the worlds tallest towers - The twin towers in Kuala lumpur - I went there and trust me its very high, but for some reason they dont let you go right to the top! - and if any one was wondering yes you travel by elevator not stairs.
The two towers are joined by a central bridge.
There are great shops there and everything is very cheap - i bought an excellent remote control car when i was younger there for a great price.
The weather there is very hot/humid and there was heavy rain at times.
Also in Kuala Lumpur - probably visible from your hotel room along with the twin towers is something strongly resembling the CN tower in canada called the Kuala Lumpur tower.
Main religion there is Islam, culture is great there is poverty on the streets but at the same time the area has a gear towards tourists. In Kuala Lumpur you will find Nandos, Macdonalds etc. - even at the airport.#
The people look malaysian - to describe is basically like half chinese and half indian sort of. you will probably see lots of school kids on your travels (i did)
Remember you will need to get vaccinations before going and will need to take anti malarial tablets and wear mosquito spray (strong smell but effective) Hotels are good as they are air conditioned but mosquitoes can still find their way in.
Its great to go out in Kuala Lumpur at night to go shopping/eat, its a bit cooler and one thing i strongly remember is a beggar on the street playing some kind of musical instrument that made a tremendously hideous sound like a siren of some sort.
Other parts of malaysia are great they have buddhist temples and markets on the street. The markets sell tea, fruits, fresh coffee beans. One special fruit called Dorean/Dorian not sure spelling - Looks like a coconut but you'd know its not from a mile out, has a repulsively strong smell and an even stronger taste, if you go to malaysia i recommend you try it just for the experience - you will either like it or hate it, my dad absolutely loves the stuff where as i hate it. (has a big seed in the middle)
I was talking about the people earlier and one thing i remember is this girl looked like a school girl tried to nick my sisters rucksack (with little success + got scared when my mum gave her one look) when we were walking down an elevator to a train (i think). Crime seems fairly low and the place seems relatively safe, with poverty there will be petty theft so be careful with your belongings.
Bad things:
Very hot
Seems very polluted like china (separated by south of china in fact)
They've got plenty of forests in malaysia - we went for a tour of where they grow spices and stuff quite interesting, *cough if your into that kinda thing.
Some tourists enjoy going hiking and walking through forests, i didnt personally do that so cannot tell you what that is like.
Pennang is good, very strong culture with Buddhist temples, etc.
Check if at the time you are going to malaysia if there will be a festival, these can be big events and maybe a good experience.
There's a great contrast in the things there, as well as culture, tourist attractions (twin towers) there are also beaches for activities like snorkeling, beaches are beautiful and great fun.
Overall malaysia is wicked and good fun, i cant wait to go again, do not take my criticisms too seriously except for the very hot and lots of mosquitoes comment. Everything there is very cheap, just be careful when buying from someone selling stuff on the streets, if you have a bad tummy i wouldn't recommend that you buy any snack from the street go to a proper shop.
Went to Langkawi in malaysia (north) that's where the excellent beaches are at, went to pennang that's where culture is at, and kuala lumpur is where the tourists/twin towers are at.
I have pictures/vids of my holz might post that on my website (www.mopages.co.nr) later you can contact me if you want to take a look/more info
Taxi is the easiest way to travel.
re: nightlife I'm not sure if there's any nightclubs i doubt it because the main religion is Islam. But in langkawi there's booze
Summary: An Interesting place to say the least, mosquitoes are a problem with the climate, shops are great ....
