Advantages: eye-opening, reminding
Disadvantages: no real fairy tale ending, but that would have unrealistic
My beautiful boy. These words touched my heart everytime Harry thinks them when looking at his son. I found myself having to really hold back the tears. This book is beautifully written; there is humour, very witty humour abd there is sadness, you really feel for all the characters involved. Tony Parsons makes me, as a woman, realise that men DO in fact have real, proper feelings. It is hard to know this fact sometimes, so many men control or hide what they really feel, particularly toward their children. Having lived in Spain for many years, where men are far more open in showing their love for their children, this book reminds me that although British men may not kiss their children in public or hug them hard there is still overwhelming love for them somewhere behind that stiff upper lip or that embarrassment of showing emotion. Tony Parsons brings 3 generations together, showing how each generation relates to the other, showing the respect for, and from the oldest, the love for and from the youngest, and how Harry fits in the middle of them both, coming to know more about himself through seeing his father in a new light, seeing his son properly at last and finding himself mature into a responsible responsive adult. I highly recommend this book, specially to men who have children themselves.
