If you like your horror fiction to be more menacingly atmospheric than 'slash and gore' The Man in the Moss by Phil Rickman will definitely not disappoint. It’s set in a small remote village community and details the complex coexistence of Pagan/Christian factions. The village inhabitants are thrown into conflict by the discovery and removal from a peat bog, of an ancient victim of the Celtic triple death. The Pagan element, including Goddess worship, is well researched and portrayed sympathetically, as is the insular village type mentality, which does not react well to ‘incomers’.
