The Manchurian Candidate is a sharp, stylish and a tense but at times an amusing account of the American political landscape. The central concept of the book is concerns the son of a prominent political family who has been brainwashed into becoming an unwilling assassin for the Chinese Communist Party. The book has made the transition to the big screen on two occasions, the first version in 1962 starred Frank Sinatra and the second version in 2004 starred Denzel Washington where the villain is portrayed as a giant corporation called "Manchurian Global" rather than Chinese Communism. Neither film comes near to matching the intensity and quality of the source ...
