Advantages: Great Sections, easy to follow
Disadvantages: None
Now as my other half can vouch for me on this one I don’t cook, I never have and probably never will. I probably take after my mother in this respect who after the first trip out to the USA back in ‘78 and eating Clam Chowder for the first time on Pier 39 out of a Sour Dough Bread Bowl decided to recreate our magnificent feast over here in the UK. Can I just point out to all of you in Ciaoland that under no circumstances should you attempt to recreate this dish with Cod. The Cod Chowder was born and it festered on the stove for a good few hours until mother dished it up with the infamous words of “You’ll eat it and like it”. Needless to say us kids sat there and looked at it in total disgust until she tried it and quickly swiped our plates away to be replaced with beans on toast.
So when I finally bought my own house and moved out on my own not only did my dad buy me a microwave, as my culinary skills were limited to “Ping” food but also bought me the best book I have ever read and owned. The Complete Mary Berry Cookery Book a hard back book of culinary delights that even I can master. I especially liked the fact that not only does each section give you very handy tips prepare certain items, for example I have never cooked a full chicken never mind carve it but Mary not only taught me how to clean, prepare and carve but also to spatchcock (mind you when I’ll ever spatchcock a chicken I have no idea).
The dishes are also categorised within each section as to how long they actually take to prepare and cook from 30 minutes to a couple of hours which I find really useful when unexpected visitors turn up and expect me to feed them. I especially liked the useful hints on how to boil an egg and make chips but also I have attempted more adventurous dishes such as salmon with watercress sauce and even a roast chicken dinner with real gravy!
I highly recommend this book, and so do my friends and family no longer do they dread me asking them round for dinner and expecting Pot Noodle to be served with a ready prepared supermarket bought salad. So thanks Dad for buying me this book, maybe you should get one for mum before she starts recreating food she’s ate on your last holiday to South Africa.
Summary: Clear sections, with colour photos of the dishes and easy to follow instructions.

- 09/04/06 Not starting you off too well with my rating, but welcome to Dooyoo anyway - honestly! ;)
The first paragraph is really totally unnecessary - it's not telling me a thing about this book, and sadly it's the bulk of your review. And please try to remove/replace references to 'the other side'! :)
Otherwise - any Dooyoo related Qs at all, do feel free to give me or one of the other guides a shout - we're happy to help! You'll find me quickest here: http://www.tooyoo.org/boo k.php?user=calypte
Happy Dooyoo'ing! |
