Advantages: Varied selection of recipes from basics to a variety of recipes from around the world

Disadvantages: Binding slightly dodgy

I really cannot recommend this cookery book highly enough. It is well laid out, clearly written, well illustrated and well designed. It includes all the standard recipes - Spaghetti Bolognaise, Lasagne, Fish Pie etc. - but is also full of some varied and interesting recipes from around the world. I have continued to recommend this book to people because of this fact; it is simple yet no condescending in any way. It is not a 'how to...' kind of book, but the recipes are simple enough to follow even for a novice cook. I have known students embarking on university study who have found this book an essential part of their luggage. The only disadvantage is that the binding doesn't seem to last long. I now have a copy of the new version (not the one illustrated) which seems to have much better binding. This really does include all the recipes you'll ever want, whether you are entertaining or cooking for everyday occasions.

Summary: Really super and worth every penny
