Five year old matilda is a budding genius but her parents arnt interested in her at all, she is very intelegent compared with others her own age but her parents fail to take any interest. To get back at her parents for there lack of interest in her matilda comes up with some great pranks which leave her parents feeling that she is just a naughty child. Matildas teacher Miss Honey can see how talented matilda is but her headmistress Mrs Trunchball refuses to agree with this as she hates children completley and is absolutley horrid to the children at her school, some of the things she does to them are barbaric. When matilda gets into ... Read the complete review

Just about everyone will have heard of Roald Dahl, and just about everyone will have heard of Matilda, which in itself suggests that this is one of those books that is worth reading and will stick around for awhile longer yet. Roald Dahl is known for his dark children's books, and Matilda is no exception. A young girl who is a genius, with parents who really don't particularly care about her is sent to a school with an evil headmistress, Mrs Trunchbull. Mrs Trunchbull hates children, and believes that a school would be better if it had no children in it, she immediately distrusts Matilda as she bought a used car off her father which was a scam. The only really nice adult ... Read the complete review

Published in 1988, "Matilda" is, in my view, definitely one of Roald Dahl's better children's books. It looks like I'm not alone in that view, as the novel won the Children's Book Award in 1988 and was voted the nation's favourite children's book in a BBC Bookworm Poll in 1998. Dahl (1916-1990) was, of course, one of the world's most famous children's authors, the writer of many books including "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", "James and the Giant Peach" and "The BFG", as well as some off-beat short story collections for adults. Jeremy Treglown's biography of Dahl provides some interesting information and insights into the man ... Read the complete review

Even though I thought Matillda was a great book I still didnt think it was the best. This book is basicly about a little girl called Matillda. Her family doesnt really treat her well. Her father is a sales man who sells banged up cars and he treats Matillda like shes dirt. Her mother and older brother dont seem to care much for her either. The only person that seems to care for her is her teacher at school. Matillda enjoys reading and does alot of it. Her teacher finds out that she is really intelligent and moves her up a couple of grades. Mean while matillda fins out she has magical powers and she can make objects float and fly around the room. With these ... Read the complete review

Matilda is a wonderful tongue in cheek novel written by one of the most popular children's authors of the eighties. The story centres around a young girl called Matilda who is an academically gifted child. She is detested by her parents, intimidated by her head teacher and yet loved by her class teacher. In Matilda Roald Dahl integrates the powers of the supernatural with an amusing family saga. The slightly moralistic ending makes this book great entertainment for adults and children alike. ...
