The Matter Myth: Towards 21st Century Science, Paul Davies and John Gribben Published in 1991, which, given the speed of advance in physics, is four or five ice ages and a mass extinction or two ago, this book can still be read as a paradigm of good science writing. There are enough mind-expanding ideas in here to change the way you look at the world half-a-dozen times or more, and it's all written in a clear, learning-worn-lightly prose that I only wish were commoner in popular science books.
