We are given a list of all the crew members at the start of the book, and this is absolutely essential to have any chance of keeping up with the story. The plotline is fast paced, and is at times hard to keep track of who is doing what, as this is the first time we are introduced to the characters and there are a lot of characters. The plot revolves around a plan to return the Dalai Lama to Tibet and free Tibet from Chinese occupation. It has always seemed to me that Dirk Pitt is Clive Cussler s alter ego. They share a love of underwater excitement and classic cars, and as Cussler writes about these, his love and knowledge show through. Dirk Pitt is your classic hero, good looking, always gets the girl, the usual stuff but it is the rest of the story that shows his strengths. He is a hardworking guy, always seems to in up in the thick of stuff. A kind of a cross between an underwater scientist, archaeologist and Rambo. ...
