Anne McCaffrey - Writer I must admit, I've never tried to review an author before - So I hope the attempt doesn't go too badly! Anne McCaffrey is an American science fiction writer best known for her Dragonriders of Pern series. She was born in 1926, and so will be 82 this year (2008 as I write this review). She was married, but eventually divorced her husband - A move which also then saw her move to Ireland, where eventually she also had a house built to her own design in County Wicklow. Anne McCaffrey was pretty unique, because she was pushing to write in what was a very heavily male dominated market. She was a single mother for a long ...

This bond between human and animal is very potent and told with great sympathy from one who has so obviously felt that bond herself. Although the "Dragon" series is what most people think of when they hear the name Anne McCaffrey, this ...

Anne McCaffrey was my first science fiction author, and hence one of my favourites. She got me hooked on science fiction, and then later into fantasy. McCaffrey's strength is her ability to create characters which are instantly likeable, and others who you can hate just as quickly, and while some of her characters across all of her series can sometimes have a certain 'sameness', the background story for each and the plots of the books they're involved in make each one different and interesting. Her most famous series is certainly the dragon series, based on the planet of Pern which has dragons who fight an organism that falls from the ...
