... s something about winter s approach that makes me seek that extra comfort factor. Stodgy comfort food, of course! A favourite comfort movie when you re feeling cold or poorly, snuggled up on the sofa. Anne McCaffrey in general ... McCaffrey - Writer I must admit, I ve never tried to review an author before - So I hope the attempt doesn t go too badly! Anne McCaffrey is an American science fiction writer best known for her Dragonriders of Pern series. She was born in 1926, and so will be 82 this year (2008 as I write this review). She was married, but eventually divorced her husband - A move which also then saw her move to Ireland, where eventually she also had a house built to her own design in County Wicklow. The book I am reviewing though comes from a series of 4 books (a little more about them later). Although Anne McCaffrey is American, she emigrated to Ireland in the early 1970 s and now lives in a house she designed herself in County Wicklow, Ireland, and calls her home Dragonhold-Underhill. The Skies of Pern - Anne McCaffrey ... comes a time with most authors when you realise that that s it, the series is dead for you, you need to go find a new favourite author, and the author needs to go live out in the country and raise chickens or something. With Anne McCaffrey I reached that point with Skies Of Pern. It s part of the enormously successful Pern series - a science fiction series about people riding dragons to fight a man-eating alien fungus. Most of the series is great. This is just painful.
