Advantages: Very funny
Disadvantages: none
I know this is not quite the right place for this op, but it's pretty close. The deeper meaning of Liff, what an absolute gem of a book. Written by Douglas Adams (Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy) and John Lloyd (one of the men behind Blackadder, Not the Nine O’clock News and Spitting Image.) The front cover of the book describes it as ‘A dictionary of things that there aren’t any words for yet.’ It is a deeply clever and funny read, and you’ll find yourself incorporating some of their words into your own vocabulary, which is quite confusing for people who have not yet read it. I’ll give you a few examples – Hewish - in a mood to swipe at vegetation with a stick. (How many times have you felt like that, I know I have on several occasions.) Wubin – The metal foil container which Chinese meals come in. Noak Hoak – A driver who indicates left then turns right. The whole book is crammed full of crackers like those above and a lot of them are even better. If when reading it you think Hmm some of these words are familiar, that is because all the words are real place names from various parts of the world. The Deeper Meaning of Liff – Great stuff, buy it today. Wemstalker.
