If you are a mechanical or civil engineering student, you really will find this textbook invaluable during your first two years of study. It introduces the concepts of stress and strain in an easy to understand fashion in the first chapter, as a foundation to the teaching of important strength of materials work like shear force, bending moment, deflection of beams and Mohr's circle. To help you out there are worked examples through every chapter and lots of problems (all answers) given at the end of the chapter.
