Medieval Europe, 400-1500, H.G.Koenigsberger, Harlow, 1987 This is one of the best textbooks for anyone taking a medieval history course at university level. It is well written, well planned, and explains the areas it covers better than most similar textbooks. For me this book scores in two areas. First, is that it includes many areas that are outside the European mainstream, such as Russian and the Mongol invasions and the Byzantine Empire, as topics in their own right rather than as additions to the history of France, England and the Empire. Second is the high quality of the maps used in this book. Although in places they oversimplify complex issues, ...
