Advantages: good bright book
Disadvantages: none
I went into Aylesbury library and discovered they were selling some of their excess books .I bought several books including MEG AT SEA. The library were selling it for 40p. New it costs about £5. I bought it to add to my grandsons growing library Ok so he was only 9 months old. Now at three with a seaside holiday last year and one in the summer this year he enjoys looking at and being read this book
This story was first published in 1973 I have read this story to lots of children and it is as good now as it was when I first read in 1973 yes I have been working with children that long.
This book is suitable for introducing children to reading and developing their skills. The book is 15 pages long has bright attractive pictures and between 3 and 15 words per page
The pictures are bold, bright and simple they are very colourful.
The writing quite large and a clear print using simple words that the children will understand.
This story is a good one to read in the summer, as it is a tale about Megs adventure at the seaside.
Meg is accompanied by her friend Mog a black and white stripy cat who is With her in other books too. Owl also accompanies her
The book starts simply Meg, Mog and Owl went to the seaside.(Meg is a witch (I forgot to tell you))
Meg is standing in the water with a smile she is holding her fishing net holding her dress out of the water. Mog and owl are making a wonderful sandcastle using her witches broom for a flag.
The story continues, as they go out in a boat, no wind so Meg makes a spell for wind and the wind blows and they get blown by a storm onto an island.
The story and pictures tell of their adventure how Meg makes fire ,how Mog catches a fish and owl gets caught by an octopus. Finally they are rescued by a helicopter after Meg makes smoke signals and the go back home.
This is an exciting adventure for children. A book to be read alone or shared.
There are 14 Meg books available written by Helen Nicholl and Jan Pienkowski. They are good and I have read many of them if not all of them
I hope this brings back memories for some of you under 30's of your early reading days. There are several Meg and mog sites with colouring pictures and other fun things for children
Thanks for reading best wishes
Summary: A childs early book about a witch and her fun at the sea .
