The River God - Wilbur Smith
by honey350 - written on 22/08/01 (Useful, 417 readings)
Rating:
we watch the rise and fall of a long-past civilisation; battles, death, secret liaisons, love, power, wealth and revenge. All this makes for a fantastic read with a tantilising backdrop described by Wilbur Smith. A master with the pen, you will truly succumb to the feel of living amongst Lositris and Taita and the many other characters that grace this story. An satisfyingly thrilling read and the best bit is… you can then read ‘The Seventh Scroll’ and ‘Warlock’ – making a brilliant triology. ...

Rating:
I have long been a fan of Wilbur Smiths books, having read all the Courtney books and few others, River God falls into to 'other' category of Smiths books. The book has come from an original transcription of Egyptian scrolls, found in 1988, by Dr Duraid ibn al Simma in a tomb on the west bank of the Nile in the Valley of the Nobles. Smith was asked to put the story contained within the scrolls (written by an Egyptian slave) into a style that everyone would be able to read and understand and thus was born The River God. The story is told by the eunuch slave Taita, (Frankie Howerd sprang to mind on reading this) he is the companion to Lostris, his master The ...

Rating:
Johannesburg with Katrina, who he has wooed- but fate has other plans for him and more tragedies lay in store for him.. My views of this novel ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Wilbur Smith is a great story teller and he keeps the narrative moving at a fast pace right to the final pages. An exciting book to say the least..This was his first book, but one gets the feeling that he is a veteran novelist going by the details and the style of narrative. I loved the descriptions about the slow building of Johannesburg . Sean has been portrayed as a very Daring and strong man who is able to take anything that comes his way, success and failure in his own stride. He is shown as a man with a ...
