I actually got this book before it was brought out in the U.K because I am lucky enough to have a sister who works in a bookshop and gave me a proof copy!!

I have always read Anne Rice and was thrilled to be one of the first to read Merrick. This book is yet another of Rice's beautiful, compelling and also historic books. The main characters in this novel are David Talbot, once a member of the talamasca now full time blood sucker and of course Merrick, a witch who works in the talamasca and is of the Mayfair witch family. Some of our old favourites also make their appearances such as Louis who is trying to get Merrick's help to see if Claudia’s ghost is at rest, and also Lestat who is still unfortunately in a comma like state from his fight with Memnoch the devil.

The story is basically about David Talbot making himself known to Merrick as a vampire so he can ask her for her help in resurrecting the spirit of the child vampire Claudia to see if she is at rest for Louis, as he has never got over her death. The story also goes back in time a lot to explain how Merrick and David became friends.

The thing I found most interesting about this novel is that it is the first time rice has truly brought together her two sets of novels, the vampire chronicles and the Mayfair witches, and used characters from both in one novel. The result is yet another fantastic novel. Although up until now I had only read Rice’s vampire books I am now tempted to read the Mayfair witches as well. Don’t be put of if you are a vampire follower you will not be disappointed. I look forward to our next installment.
