Advantages: Great exciting read, spooky and really paints a picture!
Disadvantages: The ending let me down just a little!
Barbara Erskine is my fave author. Her books are exciting and very well written and researched.
Midnight is a lonely place is one of my favourites, not as long as the others but a great story.
The story:-
Writer Kate Kennedy splits with her writer boyfriend (Jon Bevan) over her sucess. Money troubles see her flee to the countryside of essex ot be alone and write her book.
The Lindsey family are renting out the family cottage to Kate. The youngest of the family Alison, a headstrong teenager, starts excavating a dig on the beach near the cottage.
Its not long before things get strange, Kate starts experiencing strange things in the cottage. Kate had been 'informed' of ghosts and ghools from the elder son Greg.
Convinced he is messing around trying to driver her out, she thinks nothing of it. That is until things get scary, death, possession, violence, romance, heightend feelings, Roman curses, eerie weather, dramatic settings. All encoil for a great story, our modern characters become enveloped in a modern miasma of ancient mutany and vengence.
The book has everything, horror, suspense, romance, passion, terror, Barbara Erskine writes weather like no one else, you really get a strong picture in your head, I really recommend this book to anyone whos interested in history, spooky goings on and feeling a bit frightend themselves!
I love this book, but like I said, the end for me, let me down a bit, kind of an anti climax, but still an excellent read. It read the book over a weekend and couldn't put it down, I found myself glancing round my room, a little scared and unerved!
There is lots more to this book not mentioned in my plot description, I didn't want to spoil it too much!
I hope you read it and enjoy it like I did!
Tara
Summary: Gripping, passionate, spooky and moving.
