This was Virginia Andrews first novel and amazingly it was based on a true story. It was first published in 1979, but it remains a top seller even now. The film follows the lives of the Dollenganger family, father and mother, and children Christopher, Cathy and twins Carrie and Cory, and what happens to them after their father is killed in a tragic accident. The family are forced through necessity (lack of funds!) to go and live with her mothers family, The Foxworths who she has had no contact with since marrying her husband. Flowers in the Attic - Virginia Andrews

This has got to be the best work by Virgina Andrews. It is set around two children who did have a care free life. They had a loving mother and father.....that is until the father died. The mother, not being able to cope, takes her children to live with their grandparents. The grandmother is very cruel and shuts the children in the loft and thats where they have to live. I wont give away too much of the story, but the children develop a very special bond and cope with the nightmare in their own special way. This book is very easy to read as it just seems to flow. The book is actually based on a true story and that makes it seem very disturbing and compulsive reading. ...
