Henry Miller is certainly a person who inspires love or hatred. The first time you read Miller you'll certainly agree this is an author of passion and calibre. His life gushes over the page, and you are left pondering not so much his colourful adventures, no, it is more than this, you are left contemplating the inner mind of a man. He is a very human writer. He vocalises emotions which we all feel. There is a spirituality to his work - a candidness about how he sees the world. Yes, he is sexually obsessed. Yes, he is a self-absorved writer. But persevere with Miller, the reward is worth it. Some of his writing is divine. I highly recommend either of the Tropics. If you want an non-sexually oriented book try the Collosus of Maroussi (one of the best Travel books on Greece I have ever read).
