Advantages: covers most things, good pictures, good information
Disadvantages: price-if bought new, need new guide book each year
Miller’s books I love them!
Well i'm not in love with them...
They do come in handy though!
I found my first millers antique price guide (and ill come back
to the guide bit in a bit) in a charity shop
Priced £2 BARGAIN
I didn't spot anything in the book that I own
But I did see lots of toys that as a child I smashed, sold or gave away
They are very good books for getting nostalgic
and also very good at doing what it says on the tin!!!
A TO Z OF ANTIQUES
Miller’s books virtually cover every thing in the antique market
From armour to jewellery
Lamps to paintings
Reels to writing tables
it is a guide book to guide you about what antiques are worth that you have or are interested in buying .
GUIDE
It is an antique price guide - the prices in it are for guidance only
they are not set in stone
There is no guarantee that just because you have spotted granddads old
coin collection in their priced at £150 that you will get £150
or any thing near it as maybe the case
They get the guide prices from what the items photographed fetched at auction or trade price
(Christies auctions for example)
PHOTOGRAPHS
Photographs in the books are generally quite good and seem to improve year after year (think technology
plays a part in this) most are black and white but there are many that are in colour in the colour review sections –basically sections that are colour photographs instead of black and white
DESCRIPTIONS
descriptions are very good generally giving a
guide price
Maker
Place of manufacture
Length
Height etc
MILLERS CAMPARES
If there is two similar items but the guide prices are different there is a paragraph or two comparing the two items and explaining why the prices are different.
FURTHER READING
This is a section that guides the reader to further millers’ books that may be of interest.
INFORMATION BOX
This gives relevant info about factories, makers fakes etc always worth a read in each section
ADVANTAGES
Almost every thing is covered in a millers book somewhere well worth buying or borrowing
the pictures are super and get better each year
and the information is great
DISADVANTAGES
the books if you do choose to buy one can be pricey any thing from £15.99+ for a antiques professional handbook (borrowing from the library is good but you can only keep the book for a limited time)
the guide prices change each year so each year you will need a new book to keep up to date with the new antique trends.
