I love reading, and will read mostly any book on any subject, though my favourites have to be anything to do with vampires, so when I saw this book on sale recently in my local Asda, specifically for valentines day I couldn't resist!
The book is question is called "Be my valentine vampire", and is a collection of vampire love stories, all by different authors, but all romantic and saucy enough to be published by "Mills & Boon", who (after buying the book!) I realised this compilation was printed by!
Vampires tango (Michele Hauf) - This is a strange little story that feels like a Buffy rip off, with the slayer becoming involved with the prey, but finding that the prey isn't actually the blood sucking monster she is led to believe, this is an ok story with it's only real saving grace being the fantastic and sizzling sex scene, that goes from a sexy Tango through to a serious bed hopping session!
A night with a vampire (Cynthia Cooke) - This was a much better story that I felt a little short changed with, as it would have made a fantastic book in itself.
Xana and her brother are vampire hunters, and he tells her of a large nest of vampires that need destroying, but after blowing up the nest she soon finds things are not what they first appear to be, when her brother goes missing she finds that she has unwittingly become a prisoner of the head vampire Marius (whom she hates, fears and seriously wants to mattress bounce with!).
Things get even stranger when she realises actually Marius isn't all that bad when he has to destroy a whole nest of his own kind, due to secret testing done by the military......
Again I felt a bit "Daybreakers" with this tale, and felt it could have been much longer, with there of course being a fantastic sex scene to boot (intellectual reading this isn't! Lol!).
Her dark heart (Viva Anna) - This particular story again was a bit different from the norm, with the main character/vampire actually being female (many of the vampire stories I have read has the main one being male), but even though she is the oldest of her kind, with superhuman strength, she is of course only a girl and her life/existence is in danger by her second in command trying to take her leadership from her, so in comes the love interest to save the day!
This story was different but I felt could have had a stronger character in the lead, even strong women need love!
Salvation of the damned (Theresa Meyers) - This was by far the strangest story in the book. Eva meets Raphael when their eye's meet across a smoky dance floor at a Mardi Gras party, she feels like she already knows him and quickly decides to leave the party to go to another one with him (hussie! Lol!)
Raphael does know Eva, and has known her through many lifetimes, falling in love with her in everyone, problem is he never gets to keep her as she is the "salvation of the damned", and must die.......
The idea of the story was nice, and the chemistry between the lead couple of the entire book, was the most believable, but the ending of the book was ridiculous and didn't make a great deal of sense either, shame as it started so well!
This was an ok book to ad to my vampire collection, and whilst not the best was a quick and very easy read (it took me a day and a half to complete), with it being chock full of romance!
RRP is £6.99, but is currently on offer at Asda or £4.00
Thanks for reading x
