Advantages: Great read, funny, like meeting up with an old friend
Disadvantages: Too short!
She is back and this time she has a sidekick! Becky Brandon nee Bloomwood returns in the 5th installment from the Shopaholic series and reading this book was like catching up with an old school friend.
The book opens up with Becky in a popular department store at Christmas time with her 2 year old Daughter Minnie who like her mother has a good eye for a must have item. Minnie's favourite word is "Miiiine" and when she sees something she just has to have it!
2 years on from where the last book left us Becky and her husband Luke are still living with Becky's parents as house upon house keeps falling through and with the announcement of a huge financial crisis the country goes into melt down.
What will Becky do and how will she control her demanding 2 year old daughter?
The book is a welcome addition to the shopaholic series and has been eagerly awaited by most Sophie Kinsella fans including myself and I just had to read it as soon as it was released.
I had sneakily read the first chapter on Sophie Kinsella's web page and I knew from that very first chapter it would be like catching up with an old friend and as soon as the book arrived through my door I had to get stuck in and I haven't been able to put it down since.
The book continues with many of the previous characters from the last 5 books in the series, Danny her designer friend, Suze her best friend, her husband Tarquin and their children, Becky's parents and their next door neighbours, Janice and Martin, Becky's half sister Jess and her boyfriend Tom.
Its so nice to be able to relate to all of the characters and I really recommend that if you haven't read any of the other books then you do so as they really need to be read in order to really understand each of the characters.
The introduction of Bonnie is a bit of a hard character to get to know, I didn't really warm to her character as she seemed to be a bit of a mismatch and she was also difficult to relate to.
Becky is a character which I am sure most women can relate to, Becky sees something in the shop and she has to have it even if she doesn't need it and I find it so funny reading bits in the book where she has gone to such extremes to conceal her purchases from Luke and this continues in this latest edition.
The introduction of Minnie also helps you relate to how Becky feels when Minnie has a tantrum in the shop and she tries to be the ideal parent and show she is not spoilt when it becomes so clear that Minnie is one of the most spoilt children known!
The story has lots of funny moments and I think I spent a lot of my time chuckling as I read on and saw how Becky got herself into some really unbelievable situations but always managed to find her way out and come out smelling of roses.
Mini Shopaholic doesn't disappoint and I recommend for any Sophie Kinsella fan and to not read this would be a total crime!
Summary: A great read
