The first thing that jumped into my mind when I saw the cover of this book, with a picture of a wrecked plane alongside the caption '72 days on the mountain and my long trek home', was "I know this story!" I remember being enthralled as the story of the rescue made the front pages of the newspapers back in 1972, made all the more compelling by the subsequent lurid revelations of cannibalism over the following weeks. Having read Piers Paul Read's account of the story in his book 'Alive' I did not think there could be much left to write about. How wrong was I!
