Advantages: I got the book free! It is enjoyable to read.

Disadvantages: None

I got this book free from WHSmith when I pre-ordered a Harry Potter book for my partner. I do not normally read books but I found this one so good I have been buying the rest of the books in the series. To be honest this was the first book I have actually read in years. Other books in the series include : Grim Tuesday, Drowned Wednesday, Sir Thursday, Lady Friday, Superior Saturday and I believe there is a Sunday one being written too. They are written by an Australian author named Garth Nix.

What the book is about
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The book is all about the 'Architect', who created, out of nothing, the 'Secondary Realms' (our world) and the 'house'. The house is full of immortal beings (Denizens being the main ones) who basically keep records of everyone and everything that goes on in the Secondary Realms.
The Architect leaves the house and leaves a will behind. The will sets out what should happen whilst she is away until a rightful heir takes over. The will selects seven Trustees to be in charge who decide to take over permanently and they split the will up in to seven pieces and imprison each part in a different place.
The series of books is all about the rightful heir, named Arthur Penhaligon, coming and releasing the seven parts of the will and taking over from the seven Trustees.
Each Trustee is responsible for a seperate part of the house and different days of the week, hence the names, Mister Monday, Grim Tuesday etc and the story takes place over those seven days with each book covering one of those seven days.
Mister Monday is all about what takes place on the Monday. I will not go into too much detail because I do not want to spoil it for those who choose to read the book. The piece of the will which was imprisoned by Mister Monday escapes. Arthur, an ordinary boy from the Secondary Realms, knows nothing about the house or the will until Mister Monday, with the aid of his servant Sneezer, appoints him as the rightful heir whilst he is dying from an Asthma attack during a cross country run at school.
As well as freeing the other parts of the will, Arthur has to collect the seven keys, that go with the seven parts of the will, that contain great power. Mister Monday is talked into handing his key over to Arthur by Sneezer but then realises he was tricked and decides he wants it back.
Throughout the books Arthur has many strange encounters with all kind of creatures and immortal beings. The book is full of all sorts of twists and turns that kept me reading it pretty much non - stop.
The end of each book gives you a snippet or taster of the next.
Each book costs £5.99 ( paperback)
Mister Monday is 330 pages long and took me about two days to read.
(I have also added this review to Ciao)
Summary: An enjoyable read for both old and young.
I love these books. You should also try the Sabriel series.
