Mister Monday is the first book in the keys to the kingdom series. I am a long time fan of Garth Nix. After reading 'Shades Children' and the 'Abhorsen series' i was expecting a slightly dark story with a happy overtone.

The book is aimed at a younger generation of readers than his other books.
Arthur is an adopted child with very bad asthma who has just moved to a new school and town. During his first P.E. lesson he has a severe asthma attack and almost dies. Then Mister Monday and his man servant 'Sneezer' arrive

Mister Monday gives Arthur half of the first key to the house, epicenter of the universe and all universes. This saves Arthur from the asthma attack and makes him the rightful heir to the house.

The story is funny and light, but enough to give young children nightmares at places. It is a great 'zero to hero' book.

I loved it, every sentence. the characters are full and colorful and there is so much going on you wont want to put it down.
