The cruel (or not so cruel) reality of life is that, when a child finds a little defenceless (or sometimes not so defenceless) animal, he will tend to either: 1- Start screaming for no apparent reason upon his discovery of an odd looking thing that moves (this silly phobia is more often than not the result of the mother or father being frightened or disgusted by the said creature) 2- Do his best to dissect it there and then, with the first instrument that comes to hand; failing that, he will use his own fingers and nails. 3- Take it home and care (or pretend to care) for it and ... This is a simple story, a universal story, simply told. All the best ones are, of course. Mole finds a baby bird, which has fallen from its nest, and needs looking after. "Mole waited and waited but no big bird came to help it". So Mole takes the baby bird home, to feed it and care for it and make it get better.
