Advantages: Sweet story, great pictures and beatiful rhyming prose.

Disadvantages: None!

I really have to write about this as it must be the most read book in our house - and we have quite the library! We also have most Julia Donaldson/Alex Scheffler books and this seems to be the overall favourite.

The story is in the regular, ingenious Julia Donaldson rhyme. In this case the story centres on a little monkey who has lost his mummy and a butterfly who tries her very best to help find her. It is such a sweet and charming story that obviously has a happy ending!

The book has also has the usual high standard of illustrations you would expect from Alex Scheffler.

The story features many animals of the jungle and gives many great opportunities for talking about different creatures and what they look like, what they do etc. I really think that the rhyme in these books gives a great introduction to poetry and reading in general, helping children learn rhythm and tempo.

I really love reading JDs books and Monkey Puzzle in particular is a rare find - a book I have not tired of reading and my children have not stopped requesting!

Summary: A monkey has lost his mum and a butterfly tries, with some difficulty, to help find her.
