I work at a pre-school and this is by far my favorite book to read to the children.
The story follows a young monkey who has lost his mother and is helped by a butterfly to find her. They visit many animals on the way to find his mum as the butterfly doesn't realise the monkeys mum looks like him.
As do most Julia Donaldson books, the story flows well and has rhyming words in every other line. This helps children to learn rhymes as they will try to finish the sentences off for themselves. As the pages turn the children love to shout out 'no, no, no it's a ...', as the story follows the same format throughout the books and it really gets them involved in the story.
Axel Scheffler's brightly coloured pictures have a lot of detail and this really helps them to understand the story.
This book can help children learn about the life cycle of a butterfly and all the animals they meet along the way and shows that everyone is different and have unique skills.
This book is by popular children's author Julia Donaldson and a book everyone will love.
I have read this time and time again and still look forward to reading it to new children I see in the future.
Summary: Worth the read
