The three downstairs children were Kerstin (19), Stefan (17) and Felix (6). She did an admirable job of raising her children is terrible conditions by trying to maintain routines and teach them how to read and write. The book had a few photos of the cellar and it is clear that Elisabeth had done her best to make the tiny space as homely as possible.
