The Anne of Green Gables books were my favourite series as a child and will remain so forever. Anne is a redhead like myself and I identified with her in so many ways. The books will endear you to Anne and those around her immediately. Lucy Maud Montgomery should have felt very proud of herself for writing such masterpieces. Everyone should read these books and also in turn, introduce them to their children. I am going to encourage my son to read the books when he is old enough as the poor soul has inherited my colouring and I think it will make him more prepared for how cruel other children can be especially when you have "carrot" coloured hair. ...

Anne Shirley must be one of the most lovable characters ever. It will be surprising indeed, if you do not fall in love with her straight away when reading the first few chapters of this book. These series of books are the story of Anne, a skinny and very red headed orphan who is adopted by Matthew & Marilla Cuthbert, a pair of brother and sister living in the quaint town of Avonlea. From the start we are made well acquainted with Anne, her larger than life imagination, her romantic notions (call her Cordelia, it's so much more romantic than Anne!
