I thought this book would be full of interesting statistics, emotions of the men and families involved and full of things I didn't already know. The book was none of that. I saw this book on Richard & Judy's bookclub (I must have been drunk or something to watch that rubbish, or flicking the channels, I can't remember which but I hope it was the second at 5pm!) This seemed like an interesting read and being interesting in watching the space shuttles take off from an early age when they were a big event and often televised in the 1970's and 1980's. Today, of the 12 men who have walked on the moon, only 9 are still alive. Given the fact that the youngest of these men is nearly 70 now, then one day, in the near future there will be no one person alive who has walked on the moon. We have not landed on the moon in over 30 years. For me, this is very thought provoking, poignant, and disappointing. Why disappointing, well, for me the future of the survival of the human race ultimately depends upon us reaching out and colonizing other planets in space, and conquering the Moon is the first step to this ultimate goal.
