This is the first book by Salman Rushdie that I have ever read and I must admit I was pleasantly suprised. Rushdie is an eloquent writer who effortlessly weaves wit and humour into his richly descriptive prose. His level of knowledge and ability to draw cultural comparisons on a variety of levels is astounding. Set in Bombay, in India, The Moor's Last Sigh tells the tragic story of the Da Gama - Zogoiby dynasty. The story is told by Moraes Zogoiby, a man inflicted with a premature ageing condition which means he grows old at twice the rate of normal people.
