Elmer and Butterfly - David McKee
by belfin - written on 23/10/06 (Very useful, 208 readings)
Rating:
*The Author* As well as being the author of many Elmer books, David McKee is also the creator Mr Benn and King Rollo, which I m sure many of the older generation reading this review, will remember. My son loves the Elmer book and this is just the latest in a long line that he chose from the library at nursery last week. For those of you who have not seen Elmer before, he is a brightly coloured patchwork elephant who lives in the jungle with all his friends. *The Story* This story has a touch of Aesops fable about it and it s not difficult to see the resemblance to The Lion and The Mouse. In this book though, the story starts with Elmer having his usual walk through ...
Elmer on Stilts - David McKee

This is another great book in David McKee s series of books about Elmer. ~ Who is Elmer? ~ An elephant with a difference! Instead of being a bog standard grey elephant, this lovable patchwork elephant was first introduced to children in 1989 with the book entitled Elmer . I particularly like the concept of Elmer as it demonstrates that we aren t all the same and how his friends and family accept him for who he is, not what he looks like. David Mckee has written a large number of children s picture books and I have listed some of his books in the Elmer series: Elmer Elmer Again Elmer and the wind Elmer in the snow Elmer and the Lost Teddy Elmer Plays Hide ...

walk away, satisfied that they won t come back. They then continue to use their stilts just for the fun of it! THE ILLUSTRATIONS In typical David McKee style, the illustrations are bright, colourful and bold, and children who have already "met" Elmer enjoy talking about his colours. Again, the other elephants are coloured all the same grey colour, so by contrast, Elmer really stands out. In fact, he can t be missed. Similarly, the background detail is kept to a minimum, but the background detail is very jungle like, with lots of trees and plants. When the hunters crash into the stilts, the double page spread is very busy, with hunters running in all ...
