Mr Cheerful is the 43rd of the popular Mr Men children's books and the last one to be created by Roger Hargreaves. The books were a favourite of mine when I was a child, and now my son loves them as well. The author started writing them in 1971 after his son asked him what a tickle looked like and he drew it, resulting in the first book in the series, Mr Tickle. His son, Adam, continued writing and illustrating the stories after Roger's death in 1988, and this is the fourth of Roger's books that Adam published after his death. The Mr Men series of books has been well loved for many, many years. Roger Hargreaves wrote the first 39 books and his son Adam wrote the final seven. Adam was actually Roger's initial reason for writing the books, as one day he asked his dad what a tickle looked like and inspired Roger to write Mr Tickle. Each book tells the story of a different Mr Men character and this book in question, Mr Cheerful is number 43 in the series, meaning it was actually written by Adam Hargreaves. Mr Cheerful is a round orange shaped character. He wares a yellow and blue hat and always has a nice big smile. He is number 43 in the collection. The cover of the book is white and has a picture of Mr Cheerful and the title in black lettering above this and the back cover is also white and has small pictures showing all of the other characters available in the collection. The Mr Men and Little Miss collection are full of stories that your young children will enjoy, not only they will have a fun time but you can spend some quality time reading together. Mr Cheerful has a very friendly appearance; he is an orange ball, a huge smile, a yellow nose and a small yellow and blue top hat. Many more of these fun pictures will appear throughout this wonderful book making your child's read even more special.
